The protest began around midday on Thursday, March 13 with an estimated crowd of 100 to 200 individuals.

Participants chanted slogans such as “free Mahmoud, free them all” and “fight Nazis, not students,” expressing solidarity with Khalil, who earned his master’s degree from Columbia University in December.

By early afternoon, tensions escalated as the NYPD made arrests.

Khalil, who holds legal residency in the US, was apprehended and held by federal agents after his lawyer said the Trump administration had revoked his green card.
